What is Tektone?

The word Tektone is the Americanized spelling of the Greek word tektwn (tekton), which means "craftsman. The Tektone Company utilizes professional artisans and journeymen on all of their projects.

The Tektone Company® and Architectural Drafting Services® are registered trade names of Mr. Steven J. Preuss , the sole proprietor. Founded in 1996, The Tektone Company's work experience and past associations are quite sufficient to warrant consideration as your architectural drafting service.

In the 1960's, Mr. Preuss worked for an electronics firm as a mechanical designer. In 1972, he left the aerospace business to pursue a full time career in the construction industry. He owned and operated his own construction company for ten years. During this period, he constructed custom homes and commercial projects in Arizona and Alaska. In 1982, he began working as a construction manager for a property management firm. As a construction manager, he organized the demolition and reconstruction of a newspaper office without the relocation of the paper or loss of one business day. After many years of managing renovation and commercial projects, he began working as a Project Manager for Alaska Pulp Company in Alaska. The nature of his projects at the industrial firm was structural steel building renovation, marine construction, and hazard waste disposal.

In 1993, Mr. Preuss returned to Arizona to further advance his education. He received his four year degree in Computer Aided Design with an architectural emphasis in less then three years. Following graduation, Mr. Preuss joined a local start-up CAD drafting company. He was a major influence in its remarkable success. He organized the architectural department and established procedures to reach the company's goal of first time plans approval. During his tenure, the department work load grew from developing a few custom home plans a month to handling an average of one thousand individual sheets per month. He used his management skills to guide the architectural department from a single employee to nine full-time and one part-time employees within a six-month period.

When he left the CAD company in 1997, he spent the next six months developing computer software using AutoCAD to achieve his goal of accurate and efficient document turn around. Architectural Drafting Services® drawing development system produces consistent plans that simplify the plan review process. Tektone can have five employees working on a plan at the same time without loss of efficiency or duplication of effort. The only portion of the process not produced by Architectural Drafting Services® are the HVAC drawings, engineering calculations, and any required grading and drainage plans.
